Obituary for Victor E. Schaffranek
Schaffranek, Victor E., 93 formerly of Portage, PA died November 26, 2023 at Forest Hills Personal Care home in Sidman, PA. Born March 21, 1930 in Brooklyn, NY the son of Frederick Sr. and Sofia (Moxim) Schaffranek. Preceded in death by his parents, wife the former Virginia Brunnet, daughter Rebecca, son in law Walter Solarczyk, brother Frederick, Jr. and his wife Carol (Sauro) and sisters Florence Helsel and Carol Hopper and husband Dave and brother in law Elwood Helsel. Surviving are his children Alan V. Schaffranek and friend Phyllis Deremer of Portage, PA and Bonnie Solarczyk of Virginia Beach, VA . Grandchildren: Tracy (Tony)Wudski, Chad Schaffranek, Alan Schaffranek, Jr. (Jonathan Holman), John Schaffranek, Kimberly Daley, Geoffrey Solarczyk, Kathleen (Joshua) Staton and 6 great grandchildren. Brother of Debbie (William) Cooper. Also surviving are numerous nephews and nieces. Victor was a coal miner, iron worker, electrician, plumber, carpenter, a jack of all trades. As a seasonal carpenter, he along with his father, built his own home from the ground up, gathering stone for the foundation and trees for the lumber. He became a certified electrician at age 84 and earned his GED diploma at the age of 85. He was an active member of the First Lutheran Church of Portage. He enjoyed hunting, herring dipping, building/remodeling and crafting wooden gifts that he shared with family and friends. At Victor’s request there will be no viewing or visitation. A Memorial service will be held Monday May 6, 2024 at the First Lutheran Church, Portage. Inurnment Prospect Cemetery. The Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage, PA is serving the Schaffranek family.
