Obituary for Sr. Teresa of Jesus
Sister Teresa of Jesus, OCD,83, (Arcati), Monastery of St. Therese of Lisieux, Loretto, PA entered into eternal life November 6, 2021 at the Monastery surrounded by her beloved Sisters. She was born October 29, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY the daughter of Salvatore and Marie (Scarpati) Arcati. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Francis and Thomas. Surviving her are sisters in law Carmella Arcati and Barbara Arcati, five beloved nephews and many cousins, including special cousins Roberta Hamre and Anthony Sansevire. Sister was a professed nun for 61 years. She entered Carmel in the Harrisburg Diocese on June 23, 1958 and was part of the founding group who built the monastery in Elysburg, PA. She received the Carmelite Habit on June 22, 1959 and made her First Profession on June 21, 1960. Sister transferred to the Carmel of Loretto, PA in 1981 and filled many offices within the community, including Sacristan, Novice Mistress, Sub-Prioress and Prioress for two terms, from 1994-1997 and 2003-2006. Viewing will be held Friday November 12, 2021 from 12:30 PM until 9 PM at the Chapel of the Monastery of St. Therese of Lisieux, 2101 Manor Dr., Loretto, PA. Funeral Mass 10 AM Saturday at the Monastery, Most Rev. Mark L. Bartchak, Bishop of Altoona-Johnstown, Main Celebrant and the Rev. Jude Peters, OCD, homilist. Private Committal will be on the Monastery grounds. The Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage is serving the Carmelite Nuns.
