Ruth worked at the Portage Throwing Mills (known locally as the silk mill) when she graduated from Portage High School. She lived her entire life in her beloved Portage surrounded by family and many friends. She was one of the founders of the Portage Area Historical Society (PAHS) and served as its Vice President for several years and on its board for 25 years. She managed the Museum Shop and the first 15 Historical Society Collectibles. She was a recipient of the Joseph Vargo Community Service Award as well as numerous accolades and recognition during her life for her selfless work with the Boy Scouts, Historical Society and her church community of the Holy Family Parish Portage. She was quick with a smile and loved being around family. Everyone knew her to be generous, kind, and a gentle soul.
