Obituary for Ruth A. (Moyer) Richardson
RICHARDSON – RUTH AGNES( MOYER) RICHARDSON – 93, of Portage, passed away peacefully at home under the care of her loving family on February 13, 2020. Born November 3, 1926,in Portage the daughter of the late J. Sherman Sr. and Ruth (Young) Moyer. She was known throughout her life as “Tootsie.” Preceded in death by husband Carl Richardson (Portage), brother Joseph Sherman Jr. “Sonny” (Portage) and sister Harriet C. Moyer (Ormond Beach, Florida). Survived by daughter Carol Paterick (Ed Hill) of Bowie, Maryland; daughter Rosemary Noel of Dixon, California; and son Carl Richardson, Jr. (Amy) of York Pennsylvania; sister Marie Brisini (Ebensburg); and Ruth’s special angels, nephew and niece Jeff and Karen Richardson (Portage). Ruth’s family includes 7 grandchildren (Joseph, Kelsy, Robert, Danielle, Matthew, Libby, and Michael); 3 great-grandchildren (Kevin Jr., Kiana, and Kyle); and 2 great-great grandsons (Isaac and Victor, Jr.); multiple nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Ruth worked at the Portage Throwing Mills (known locally as the silk mill) when she graduated from Portage High School. She lived her entire life in her beloved Portage surrounded by family and many friends. She was one of the founders of the Portage Area Historical Society (PAHS) and served as its Vice President for several years and on its board for 25 years. She managed the Museum Shop and the first 15 Historical Society Collectibles. She was a recipient of the Joseph Vargo Community Service Award as well as numerous accolades and recognition during her life for her selfless work with the Boy Scouts, Historical Society and her church community of the Holy Family Parish Portage. She was quick with a smile and loved being around family. Everyone knew her to be generous, kind, and a gentle soul.
Funeral arrangements through the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Viewing Saturday, February 15, 2020 from 10:00am – 1:00pm with a memorial service by Father Thomas Stabile, Holy Family Parish, followed by burial in Prospect Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions in Ruth’s name be made to the Holy Family Parish (509 Caldwell Avenue, Portage, PA 15946) or to the Portage Area Historical Society (P.O. Box 45, Portage, PA 15946).
