Rhea Mae (Stombaugh) Costello (102) left this earthly life and returned to her heavenly home on December 20, 2023, joining her husband, Earl F. Costello, who died October 18, 2003. Born May 1, 1921 to Martha Mae (Berkheimer) Stombaugh and Frank Stombaugh. All of her children survive her, namely, Joyce E. Stombaugh Rodriguez; bonus son, Ronald F. Costello (Bobbie, deceased); Michael F. Costello (Debbie); Dennis E. Costello (Annie); Laura M. Alexander (Lou); Jayne M. Walker (Bud, deceased); and Diane L. Carney (Ken). In addition, she is survived by her devoted brother, S. David Stombaugh. During her lifetime, 23 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren, were born. Deceased grandchildren include Tammy Costello, Courtney Alexander, and infant, Mary Catherine Costello. Deceased siblings include L. Mardel Stombaugh, Iris Snare, Richard Stombaugh and Alvin Stombaugh. She leaves numerous nieces and nephews, her friends at the Portage Senior Center, her friends and neighbors at Lodge Run Apartments, and her beloved church family at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob, where she was a faithful life-long member. Rhea worked for Koppers Store and for many years at Schoenfeld's Department Store. Throughout her life, she kept active as member, and serving as officers, of the PTA, Women of the Moose and Portage Senior Citizens. She served on the election board and volunteered at the Portage Historical Museum. Her favorite activities outside the family included her Pinochle Club, with special friends, and quilting Mondays with the ladies at Homewood in Martinsburg. Rhea loved cooking and baking, with a reputation among family and friends for her weekly pies and "the best" nut rolls, reserved for the holidays. She was happiest when surrounded by her family, particularly her grandchildren. She was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by her entire family. Friends received from 12 noon until time of service 2PM Tuesday December 26, 2023 at the Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, Blue Knob, PA . Interment church cemetery.
