Rebecca Catherine (Sills) Kakabar
December 6th 1941 to June 8th 2024
Rebecca Catherine “Becky” (Sills) Kakabar (82) of Salix, PA, passed away peacefully June 8th, 2024 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center after developing complications from a fall.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James Ronald “Homer” Kakabar, beloved parents Harold and Rita (Grabenstein) Sills, brother Richard “Dick” Sills, and in-laws Michael “Kelly” and Marian (Krestar) Kakabar, and step-mother-in-law, Dorothy Bizzari. It brings us peace knowing she is reunited in heaven with so many that she loved.
She is survived by her children, Ronald Timothy “Tim” (Carole), Thomas James “T.J.” (Jean), and Daniel Scott “Scott” (Kristine); grandchildren Allison (Geoffrey Warholak), Sara, Sidney, and Gabrielle; brother Robert (Genie) Sills; as well as numerous family and friends that she always enjoyed hearing from, especially Barbara Christ, Joyce Hodgson, Marilyn Luprek and Joy Herold; and special neighbors Brock, Dianna, and Alek Hupkovich, and Paul and Cindy Gartland..
Becky was born in Cumberland, Maryland where she graduated from Fort Hill High School. She worked as a secretary at Bedford Springs Resort, where she met Homer in 1961. She was a proud Sears Retiree and enjoyed meeting her prior coworkers for retiree luncheons.
A woman of many talents, she was a skilled gardener and cook, but especially skilled at sewing; making countless Halloween costumes for her girls, among many other things. She loved vacationing at the beach, chatting on the phone, watching “Judge Judy” and a good shopping trip. Becky treasured time spent with family and friends, but most of all, her greatest treasures were her four granddaughters; she would do anything for them and was always willing to tell you about their many accomplishments.
She taught those closest to her to be tough, but kind, and to always value time spent together. We will miss her strong spirit, unending love, and “just making sure you made it home okay” calls.
Friends received from 4 until 8 PM Wednesday June 12, 2024 at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Beaverdale. Funeral Mass 11 AM Thursday, June 13, 2024 St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, PA. Fr. Jerzy Auguscik, OFM Conv. celebrant. Committal St. Joseph Cemetery, Beaverdale, PA. At Becky's request she ask that you wear casual attire to the visitation and Mass.
