Sherbine, Matthew D., 51 Portage, PA. Died November 30, 2022 at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, PA, surrounded by his immediate family. He was born December 2, 1970 in Johnstown the youngest son of John W. and Cheryl D. (Richardson) Sherbine. He was preceded in death by his father, his brother Mark married to Brenda ( McGough) and his long time high school girlfriend Jennifer Smith. Survived by his brothers Keith married to Barb (McCabe) of Monroeville and Eric married to Cindy (Weisbart ) of British Columbia, Canada. He is also survived by his close friend Sarah Mitchell (Chicago), his niece and nephew, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Matthew was a gifted athlete as a young man, and excelled at wresting and football. He enjoyed literature, a wide range of music, fishing, camping and playing his guitar (the concerts that Matthew and Sarah put on for visitors to their apartment in Chicago were always fun, even when they made the visitors sing along). He made friends easily wherever he went and had a mischievous sense of humor. He was kind to others. He earned Master’s degrees in counseling from Argosy University in Chicago, and he worked for a number of years as an addiction counselor in various locations in Illinois, Belize and Pennsylvania. A memorial service and celebration of Matthew’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to The Nature Conservancy. His family is grateful for the compassionate care Matthew received from the medical professionals at the DaVita dialysis center in Ebensburg, the Conemaugh Hospital in Johnstown, and the Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The Sherbine family is being served by Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage.
