Obituary for John W. Sherbine
Sherbine, John W. 84, Portage, PA . Entered into new life April 20, 2020, at home surrounded by hisfamily. He was born 4/11/1936 in Johnstown the son of Lawrence and Inez (Johnson) Sherbine. Preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert and best friend Dave Klock. Survived by his wife of 62 years, the former Cheryl Richardson and sons: Mark married to the former Brenda McGough, Portage; Keith married to the former Barbara McCabe, Monroeville; Eric married to Dr. Cindy Weisbart, Vancouver,BC; and Matthew, Portage. Grandchildren: Allison Edith (Jeremy) Painter; and Justin Sherbine. Brother of: Ronald (Nancy) of Portage; Joyce Lynn (Donald) Ruthrauff, Kessy Schade both of California and Glenda wife of David Diehl of Vermont. Also surviving is a brother-in-law Dennis (Tillie) Richardson of Florida. John was a Navy veteran, a member of First Lutheran Church, Portage where he started the Men’s Club and Lenten fish fries, and served on the church council for fifty plus years. He was also an associate member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Summerhill. He was a private pilot with an instrument rating as well as being a helicopter pilot. John spent his career in the concrete business, first as the president of Sherbine's Inc., and later as a ConcreteTechnician with Granas Brothers. After his retirement, John became anaccomplished wood worker, building furniture for friends and relatives, as well as several pieces for the sanctuary of his church. No viewing or visitation. Due to the Covid Pandemic a celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff of WindberHospice for the kind and gentle care they provided. Family ask memorial contributions be made to First Lutheran Church,Portage, or St. John’s Lutheran Church, Summerhill, PA. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the good race, I have kept the faith” Timothy 4:7. “Well done, good and faithful servant!” Matthew 25:23. The Sherbine family is being served by Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage.
