Smith, James W., 69, Portage died December 16, 2021 at Crichton Rehabilitation Center. Born June 24, 1952 in Johnstown the son of Paul J. and Olive L. “Betty” (Wright ) Smith. Preceded in death by his parents and brother David. Survived by his wife of 46 years the former Elaine F. Craig, and daughters Angela R. Cochran of Portage, Jeanette L. Smith of Ebensburg, and Kayla N. Verbic of Piney Point, MD. Grandchildren Brady A. Cochran, Gabrielle G. Verbic, and Sawyer S. Verbic. Brother of Robert P. “Regan” (Judy) Smith of Portage and Colin L. (Linda) Smith of Estero, FL. Jim retired as a trackman for Norfolk Southern Railroad with 41 years of service. He was an avid sports fan especially Notre Dame and the Cincinnati Reds. He loved to golf, play basket ball and casino trips. He could always be seen in the bleachers watching his grandson’s baseball games. Friends received from 4 PM until time of service 6 PM Sunday at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Interment Mt. Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers family ask contributions be made to Crichton- McCormick Park. Due to the recent increase in Covid cases in this area masks are required for visitation and service. Elaine and daughters understand if you are unable to attend the visitation and just ask that you have a happy thought of Jim that day.
