Obituary for James Ronald "Homer" Kakabar

The last remaining survivor of his immediate family and that generation of Kakabars, he is preceded in death by his parents Michael "Kelly' and Marian (Krestar)) Kakabar; Siblings John (Beatrice) Kakabar, Raymond (Rose) Kakabar, infant brother Tony and step-sister Darlene Bizzarri; and in-laws Harold and Rita Sills.  Survived by his wife of 63 years Rebecca (Sills) Kakabar; children Ronald Timothy "Tim" (Carole), Thomas James "T.J." (Jean), and Daniel Scott "Scott" (Kristine); grandchildren Allison (Geoff Warholak), Sara, Sidney, and Gabrielle; beloved neighbors Brock, Dianna and Alex Hupkovich; step-brother John (Bonnie) Bizzarri and numerous nieces and nephews. Homer loved all things outdoors- hunting, fishing, tending to the yard, and walks in the woods with his walking stick.  You'd often find him tinkering in the garage, listening to Johny Cash on the porch, or roaming the neighborhood.  He had a story, joke or opinion for any occasion, and he would often tell you the same one twice.  He cherished time spent with family and friends, especially his granddaughters. He was a Bethlehem Steel retiree, but worked numerous jobs when laid off from the mill.  He was proud to serve in the United States Army and National Guard.  Member of the Dunlo American Legion and Dunlo Rod and Gun Club. A man of strong faith, we find peace in knowing he is in Heaven with God.  A very special thank you to the staff at Windber Woods for their exceptional and loving care over the last few months; they really went above and beyond to treat him like family and kept his spirits up even on his bad days.  At Homer's request , casual dress at Mass and please NO FLOWERS.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on his behalf to the Dunlo Rod and Gun Club (PO Box 283 Dunlo, PA 15930).  Private Viewing. All are welcome to attend the Funeral Mass at 1 pm Tuesday April 9, 2024 at St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael, PA Celebration of his life and meal to follow at the Dunlo Firehall.  If you're unable to attend, have a shot and a beer in his memory.
