Hepner, James A. -89- Portage, passed away April 10, 201, at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Palliative Care Unit, Johnstown. Born January 27, 1929, in Akron, Ohio, the son of Attorney Daniel H. and Eva L. (Patterson) Hepner. Preceded in death by parent; wife of 57 years, Jean A. (Verba); a brother, Daniel H., Jr.; and sisters Eunice I. Pahel and Jeanne L. Leman; also, beloved companion, Max. Survived by son James Alan, married to the former Jane McBride of Charles Town, W.Va., and a daughter Marcia Jean and Dennis Kwiatkowski of Portage. Also survived by grandchildren, Dominique J., married to Waylon Gailey, Chelsea L., Daniel P., and Jackson A. Hepner. Also, great-grandchildren Tanner R., Teagan J., and Rory J. Gailey. Graduate of Portage Boro High School; Indiana University of Pennsylvania (B.S.), University of Pittsburgh (M.ed), and Penn State University (Supt). A teacher and administrator for forty years. Served as superintendent from 1974-1993,when he retired. Many recall fond memories from his days as music instructor/choral director, and as the “Voice of the Mustangs”. U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War serving with the Second Infantry Division in Korea from 1951-1953, attaining the rank of Sergeant and awarded the Bronze Star; life member of the Portage Volunteer Fire Company; former Portage Borough Secretary; Bethany United Methodist Church member, choir director, Sunday school teacher, and trustee; member of Post 430 American Legion and Post 895 VFW; Summit Lodge 312, F&A.M.; AASR, Valley of Altoona, Jaffa Shrine and the Drum and Bugle Corps Unit. Family and friends will be received 4 to 8 PM Friday, at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral Service 10 AM Saturday, at Bethany United Methodist Church, Portage, with the Rev. Art Black and the Rev. James Rank. Interment, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Shriners Hospitals for Children at the Jaffa Shrine, P.O.
