Obituary for Edward "Mac" Washko
Washko, Edward,"Mac" 93, Windber, entered into new life February 16,2020 at Windber Woods Senior Living and Rehabilitation Center. He was born May 19, 1926 in Windber the son of John and Mary (Mudzo) Washko. Preceded in death by his parents, grandson Dwayne E. Washko brothers: Albert, Thomas, John,Charles, Frank, Martin, Victor, Robert, George, Quinton, and Bernard and sisters: Dorothy Schrock and Charlotte Roza. He is survived by his wife of 66 years the former Nancy Hook and sons Edward D. married to the former Linda Berkey of Sharpsburg, MD and James A. married to the former Terri Novotny of Summerhill, PA . Grandchildren: Jessica (Steve) Mersinger and Matthew Washko; great granddaughter Cameron Mersinger. Ed was the last member of his immediate family. Retired from Island Creek Coal Co. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church of Windber, Windber American Legion, VFW, Windber Polish Club, and a life member of the Scalp Level-Paint Vol. Fire Dept. and the DAV. He was an Army veteran and one of seven brothers serving at the same time during WWII. He was wounded in Germany and was awarded the Purple Heart. At Ed’s request there will be no viewing or visitation. Family and friends are encouraged to attend his Funeral Service 10AM Tuesday February 18 at SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Windber, Very Rev. Miles Zdinak officiating. Entombment All Faiths Mausoleum, Windber. Military Honors by the Windber VFW Ritual Team . In Lieu of flowers family ask contributions to SS Peter and Paul Orthodox Church. The family is being served by the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage.
