Obituary for Bonnie L.(Brewer) Novotny

NOVOTNY – Bonnie L. (Brewer), 83, Summerhill, sadly passed away on November 27, 2023 at home. She was born on March 22, 1940 in Summerhill, daughter of Charles E. and Naomi (Gallagher) Brewer. Preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 56 years, George Novotny; her sisters, Shirley (Donald) Strayer, Patricia (Roy) Green and brother Charles “Butch” (Arlene) Brewer; sisters-in-law Mary (Ralph) George, Julie (Steve) Nagy, Ann Kordish, Genn (James) Shaw, Dorothy (Joseph) Kuzeck, and Joan Wilwohl. Loving mother of children Terri, wife of James Washko; Allen, wife Dianne (George); and Joni, wife of Sean Trovato, all of Summerhill; grandchildren Matthew Washko, Pittsburgh; Alexis (Brenden) Valko; and Michael Trovato, both of Summerhill; great grandson, Gio George Valko and special niece, Kelly (Larry) Penatzer, who was considered her third daughter.

Also survived by her sister Sally Timko and husband Pete; in-laws, Jean Smay and Tom Wilwohl; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bonnie was a lifelong member and served on council at St. John Lutheran Church, Summerhill, and found solace and strength in her faith. For 32 years, she worked within the Forest Hills School District and for the last 20 years in the high school guidance office. She was a 12-year liver transplant survivor, thanks to the generous gift of life donation by her niece, Patti Stevens. Bonnie lived an extraordinary life surrounded by family who adored her. Her three grandchildren were the light of her life, and she beamed with pride at their every accomplishment. Bonnie was an avid cruiser, loved travelling with her family and friends and making unforgettable memories. Bonnie enjoyed the friendly competition of her card clubs, her monthly luncheons with the “school girls’” and the casino trips with her friends. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jean H. Kinley Funeral Home, Portage. Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, at St. John Lutheran Church, Summerhill, Jennifer Sherbine, officiant. Committal in South Fork Cemetery. Her vivacious and giving spirit will be missed by many. Those who would like to honor Bonnie with a memorial contribution are asked to contribute to the Cambria County Association for the Blind at 211 Central Avenue, Johnstown PA.
